"Images from the past" shows parts of our history through images from our historical archive. The images show structures and people working on offshore installations when the business started in Norway in the early 70s. this is an era of growth and optimism, but also an era of challenges and tremendous effort by many people. The images show the power of photography as a tool for documentation of this pioneering area in Norway's recent history.

The Troll A platform is a condeep offshore natural gas platform in the Troll gas field off the west coast of Norway. It is the tallest structure that has ever been moved to another position, relative to the surface of the Earth, and is among the largest and most complex engineering projects in history. The platform was a televised sensation when it was towed into the North Sea in 1996, where it is now operated by Statoil. Troll A was built by Norwegian Contractors for Norske Shell, with base construction beginning in July 1991 at a cost of 4150 million NOK, or approximately US$650,000,000 at the time. Giant Crab offshore. Crabzilla! Photo appears to show giant CRAB measuring at least 50ft across lurking in the waters off Whitstable. The seaside town might be famed for its oysters, but this incredible image could soon have visitors flocking to Whistable in the hope of catching Britain's biggest crab. The photograph, which has been shared online, appears to show a crustacean that is at least 50ft-wide lurking in shallow water. I was coming in from an offshore trip and I noticed a weird shaped object floating in the distance. All I could see were the multiple fins running down its back so I though it was some sort of palm frond, but it just didn't look right. I ended up stopping and noticed that it started swimming. It was pretty crazy seeing this guy so far out. I have seen plenty swimming around the islands, but never one that far out. Most likely, because of the King tides that are occurring it got caught in one of the swift outgoing tides and got pushed out to sea. I was just inside the reef so it was close to four miles from land. Most likely it would have died out there as the current that far out would most likely push it East with very little chance of coming back inshore. But you never know and ...
