"Images from the past" shows parts of our history through images from our historical archive. The images show structures and people working on offshore installations when the business started in Norway in the early 70s. this is an era of growth and optimism, but also an era of challenges and tremendous effort by many people. The images show the power of photography as a tool for documentation of this pioneering area in Norway's recent history.
The Troll A platform is a condeep offshore natural gas platform in the Troll gas field off the west coast of Norway. It is the tallest structure that has ever been moved to another position, relative to the surface of the Earth, and is among the largest and most complex engineering projects in history. The platform was a televised sensation when it was towed into the North Sea in 1996, where it is now operated by Statoil. Troll A was built by Norwegian Contractors for Norske Shell, with base construction beginning in July 1991 at a cost of 4150 million NOK, or approximately US$650,000,000 at the time. The base and the deck were built separately, and were joined in 1995 while the base was partially submerged. The base is a Condeep gravity base structure built from reinforced concrete. The...
We took a long haul 50 miles offshore in search of the AmberJack and Red Grouper. The Amberjack bite was action packed but we were never able to get to the RGs. We caught some Red Snapper and even got to eat some Mangrove Snapper at the dock. With an idea sure to raise hopes, eyebrows and hackles in roughly equal proportions, architectural outfit Morphocode has cooked up the idea of building loft apartments into offshore wind turbines. Wind trends, as Morphocode sees them (Image: Morphocode) Morphocode's reasoning that offshore turbines will require the permanent presence of maintenance crews (Image: Morphocode) The wind turbine loft is an aerodynamically-shaped living space doubling as the rotor hub of the turbine (Image: Morphocode) Inside the wind turbine loft (Image: Morphocode) Offshore turbines can be surprisingly large, with Siemens' 75-m B75 blades creating a sweep of 154-m diameter which is plenty big enough to swallow an Airbus A380. Morphocode predicts that offshore turbines will become larger still in the next few...

Located off the coast of Panama, the world's largest open-ocean fish farm raises hundreds of thousands of cobia fish in colossal underwater pods. Brian O'Hanlon, whose company runs the farms, hopes to bring this sustainable aquaculture approach to more coasts, and cobia to more plates. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. I was coming in from an offshore trip and I noticed a weird shaped object floating in the distance. All I could see were the multiple fins running down its back so I though it was some sort of palm frond, but it just didn't look right. I ended up stopping and noticed that it started swimming. It was pretty crazy seeing this guy so far out. I have seen plenty swimming around the islands, but never one that far out. Most likely, because of the King tides that are occurring it got caught in one of the swift outgoing tides and got pushed out to sea. I was just inside the reef so it was close to four miles from land. Most likely it would have died out there as the current that far out would most likely push it East with very little chance of coming back inshore. But you never know and ...
Be sure and subscribe to my website: www.arkansascrappiefishing.com Also Like my Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/arkansascrappiefishing Sorry for the static in the video, also if you wonder why my 83/200 transducer shows structure faster it's because it's glassed in the hull. I went over some areas that I would fish offshore. When you say offshore it could be anything from creek channels to man made brush piles. The key is finding them. Topo maps with contour lines come in handy greatly when finding offshore structure. If you have any questions let me know. The fish finder is a Lowrance HDS 9 Gen 3 Touch.
